My dream was always to travel the world, and becoming a nanny was how I was able to make that dream come true.
Hi, I'm Crown and Crescent founder Rebecca Gaskin. In over 25 years in the business, I have worked in countless cities and locations across five continents, and travelled to even more. Always expanding my skillset, I have cared for children of all ages, and a variety of backgrounds, cultures, religions and family types. I have learned five languages and taught English from scratch. My families have included royals and high net worth individuals, people in the public eye, and plenty of regular folk. My roles have included nanny, proxy parent and governess.
People have always asked me how did I get to live this dream life, how can they do it too?
What few know is that I have endured plenty of bumps in the road. I've been exploited by families, scammed by agencies, burned out many times over. I have found myself jobless, broke and far from home. Even in my home country, navigating boundaries, salaries and conditions has defeated me when things are so different from the world I got used to. But with each blow, I learned. I grew.
Each experience has made me stronger as a nanny and as a person. I am incredibly resilient. I take all kinds of knocks and just get back up again. I pass that strength on to the children I care for, and the nannies I meet, and others in my life; they find inspiration. Which is why I decided to start Crown and Crescent. There is so much I can share from my highs and lows, to help others navigate this rewarding choice of career. There may be obstacles, but achieving your dream makes it so worthwhile.
